Willows Estate hosts trip to Medieval Times

Willows Estate

‘It’s a bigger, exciting outing’

Residents will step back in time today (March 28), into the period of sword-donning knights in shining armour.

A group of eight women and men who reside at Willows Estate in Aurora are heading to Toronto to the Medieval Times dinner theatre.

“It’s exciting for us,” says Teddy Mazzuca, life enrichment co-ordinator for the long-term care home.

It’s a bigger outing than some of the typical ones residents enjoy, she notes. The event reflects the wishes of newer residents who are seeking more active and adventurous activities. A recent influx of residents who are interested in outings led the residents’ council to brainstorm a number of possibilities.

The Willows did plan an outing to Medieval Times several years ago. Around the holiday season last year, Teddy came across a pamphlet advertising the dinner and theatre experience. “The interest from residents was good,” says Teddy about the idea of visiting the popular Toronto attraction.

A trip to Medieval Times encompasses “a spectacular show” based on medieval Spain, with knights in combat, horses, swordplay and more. There’s jousting, horsemanship and falconry plus a four-course, utensil-free meal served in a castle-like space.

Residents will have dinner and then watch the show.

“This is a different group of (clientele) that will enjoy this particular outing,” Teddy anticipates.
