Home hosting a variety of activities that marry health awareness with fun and laughter
Health and wellness is the focus of National Nursing Week at Village Green.
Throughout this week the Greater Napanee long-term care home is hosting a variety of activities that encourage team members and residents to make their health and wellness a top priority.
When staff members are healthy, both psychically and emotionally, they can better care for others, so that’s why this week is so important, says Village Green director of care Debbie McTaggart.
“For Nursing Week, we decided to focus on taking care of ourselves and making sure that we’re OK, and having fun, (and) then we can better look after our residents,” she tells The OMNIway.
Each year Village Green honours National Nursing Week.
To help promote the health and wellness theme this year, a hypnotherapist is coming to the home to host sessions on stress management, relaxation and quitting smoking.
A yoga instructor will also be at Village Green to host sessions on being mindful and having a healthy body.
Staff members will also be treated to manicures, facials and makeup sessions. Healthy food and beverages will be offered to everyone throughout the week.
Fun and laugher is one of OMNI Health Care’s core values, and Village Green is embracing this concept all week. The home’s Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) team is hosting games and prize giveaways to go along with the value of fun and laughter.
“This is going to be a fun week,” Debbie says.
Held the week of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12 every year since 1965, National Nursing Week aims to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions nurses make in our health-care system. OMNI Health Care homes make a point of including all staff members in their Nursing Week celebrations.
