In Part 6 of The OMNIway’s video series on medication safety in long-term care, we speak with Carla Beaton, Medical Pharmacies’ vice-president of clinical innovations and quality improvement, about the role education plays in keeping residents safe from medication error.
Medical Pharmacies, OMNI Health Care’s pharmaceutical services provider, works with long-term-care home staff to educate people in areas such as new medications coming to market and drug interactions.
“We want to make sure that the nurses have a really good understanding of the medications they’re … giving to the residents, (and) what impact it’s going to have on the residents, what to monitor for, and how to report that out to the physician or the pharmacist, so that we can help in those situations and those care conferences,” Beaton says.
