VIDEO: Frost Manor RN is thankful for the encouragement that allowed her to hone leadership skills
Brittney Sharpe says administrator Doneath Stewart has empowered her in her role
Brittney Sharpe, who was named Frost Manor’s 2019 Inspired Leader, says she’s thankful for the empowerment administrator Doneath Stewart has provided her in her role as a registered nurse at the Lindsay long-term care home.
It’s this encouragement, Brittney says, that helped her hone her leadership skills.
“She has always told me that she saw me as a leader, so I guess knowing that people feel that way makes you want to do it even more,” Brittney says.
Brittney, who has been an RN at Frost Manor for three years, was presented with her Inspired Leadership Award during a ceremony at the home in August.
She worked three years previously as a personal support worker before completing her bachelor of science in nursing.
Brittney says the most rewarding part of her job is knowing that she can have a positive impact on residents’ quality of life.
“My goal is to reduce risks for residents and make sure that the residents’ quality of life can be met; that we can make it the best that it can be,” she says.
OMNI’s Inspired Leadership Award is presented annually to staff members from each of the organization’s 18 long-term care homes. The accolade recognizes people who demonstrate OMNI’s mission, vision and values. Inspired Leaders also possess outstanding leadership skills and are committed to their work.
