Streamway’s new RPN-BSO’s experience has made new role a ‘smooth transition’
Administrator Kylie Szczebonski discusses the strengths Kristyn Skitch brings to the position
Streamway Villa administrator and director of care Kylie Szczebonski says Kristyn Skitch has made a “smooth transition” into her new role as the Cobourg long-term care home’s RPN-BSO.

Streamway Villa’s new RPN-BSO, Kristyn Skitch (left), is seen here with the Cobourg long-term care home’s administrator and director of care, Kylie Szczebonski.
As RPN-BSO, Kristyn is the lead front-line team member for the home’s involvement with the Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) program, a provincial initiative to help enhance quality of life for seniors affected by dementia and other conditions that cause agitation and aggressive behaviours.
BSO funding, which is provided to long-term care homes through Ontario’s 14 Local Health Integration Networks, is largely put towards staff education.
Kristyn has worked as a registered practical nurse (RPN) at Streamway Villa for four years and has taken many BSO training courses. Her experience and training have prepped her for the position, Kylie says.
“When we needed to repost the position and look for the (RPN-BSO) candidate, Kristyn applied for the position and already came with a lot of experience,” Kylie tells The OMNIway.
“She was already an employee of Streamway, she knew the residents well, and she also worked in another long-term care home, so she has a lot of valuable experience. …
“I also think that because she was already a leader on the team, PSWs and front-line staff already felt comfortable with her, and her leadership was evident, so it was a smooth transition for her.”
Kylie says one of the greatest strengths Kristyn brings to the table is her clinical knowledge and the fact she’s focused on delivering positive results for residents.
“For her to really focus on the clinical component of the BSO part of the position has been fairly easy, and we have seen some really positive results,” Kylie says.
