All team members offered sessions that included hypnotherapy, yoga and reflexology
SELBY, Ont. – Three Village Green personal support workers (PSWs) say the Nursing Week activities hosted at the Greater Napanee long-term care home May 7-13 brought team members from all departments together to promote health and wellness.
Anne Marie Scott, Sarah Perry and Wanda McCumber all participated in the variety of activities held at the home during the week.
Activities included a sessions from a hypnotherapist on stress management, relaxation and smoking cessation. There was also a yoga instructor who hosted sessions on being mindful and having a healthy body. Reflexology was also offered by Wendy, one of the home’s staff members.
“We really enjoyed it and had a good time,” says Anne Marie, who has worked at Village Green for 38 years. “The reflexology was really awesome – it was really something, and (Wendy) even offered to have sessions with us girls any time we wanted.”
The home was also offering staff members facial treatments and manicures during the week. Wanda says this was her favourite part of the week.
“It was very relaxing – it was a half hour and it was really good,” she says.
Sarah says she enjoyed the hypnotherapy sessions.
“The hypnotherapy was really relaxing and enjoyable,” she says.
Healthy foods and beverages, including fruits, veggie trays and water flavoured with watermelon and cucumber, prepared by the nutritional care team, were offered to staff members and residents throughout the week, which Anne Marie, Sarah and Wanda say was a nice added touch.
Village Green hosts themed events in honour of National Nursing Week each year.
Held the week of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12 every year since 1965, National Nursing Week aims to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions nurses make in our health-care system. OMNI Health Care homes make a point of including all staff members in their Nursing Week celebrations.
