‘All the students were so amazing, such beautiful talent’
A group of students from Cornerstone Christian Academy paid a visit to Village Green on April 18 to help the Greater Napanee long-term care home pay tribute to its volunteers.
Village Green’s annual volunteer appreciation celebration honours the people who give their time to enhance the quality of life for residents. This year’s celebration featured the students showcasing their talents for everyone. Two girls sang for residents, one girl performed a ballet routine and one boy played guitar. Another student read a poem about volunteers.
“All the students were so amazing, such beautiful talent,” Linda tells The OMNIway, adding words of praise for the life enrichment team. “The whole event was so great. The program department did a fantastic job.”
Students from Cornerstone Christian Academy have visited the home in the past, and Village Green and the school have a strong relationship, says life enrichment co-ordinator Karen Coulter.
Each volunteer received a certificate of appreciation from the home, and special recognition was given to four longtime volunteers for their dedication to Village Green. Gifts were also handed out to volunteers, and Karen adds that life enrichment staff created a “beautiful food spread” of desserts, fruits, cheese and a chocolate fountain.
“One of the volunteers just called to tell me it was one of the best volunteer appreciation events she had ever gone to,” Karen says.
April 15-21 was National Volunteer Week 2018. The week is marked by events nationwide that celebrate volunteers and all they do to enrich the lives of others. This year marked the 77th National Volunteer Week.
