‘Sharon truly embodies the OMNIway spirit every day’
Forest Hill life enrichment co-ordinator Craig Forrest says he sees Sharon Reid leading by example, exhibiting “a work ethic beyond compare,” every day at the Kanata long-term care home, which is why he nominated Sharon for a 2019 Inspired Leadership Award.
Sharon, who is Forest Hill’s nutritional care manager, will often arrive at work early and stay late to ensure all the trains in the kitchen are running on time, Craig says in his nomination.
“She is a hands-on manager and will assist her staff in cleaning, doing dishes or serving meals on the units if needed,” Craig says.
As a team leader, Sharon works hard to empower her co-workers and has an approachable management style that makes team members feel valued, he adds.
Sharon is also a resident-focused team member who will attend residents’ council meetings and have one-to-one chats with residents to address concerns or take suggestions, Craig says.
As a testament to Sharon’s dedication to enhancing residents’ quality of life, she started Forest Hill’s monthly residents’ choice lunch program in 2016. The program provides special lunches that would normally not be feasible for a long-term care home with 156 residents.
“Sharon truly embodies the OMNIway spirit every day,” Craig says.
OMNI Health Care’s Inspired Leadership Award is presented annually to staff members from each of the organization’s 18 long-term care homes. The accolade recognizes people who demonstrate OMNI’s mission, vision and values. Inspired Leaders also possess outstanding leadership skills and are committed to their work.
