LEA says her first Halloween at Streamway Villa made a positive impression

‘This is a small home, so I find we have a more intimate feeling, more of a home feeling, so it went over really well,’ says Laurie Kracht

Life enrichment aide (LEA) Laurie Kracht had her first taste of a Streamway Villa Halloween this year, and she says she can see why it’s such a big event at the Cobourg long-term care home.

“This is a small home, so I find we have a more intimate feeling, more of a home feeling, so it went over really well,” Laurie, who started her position at Streamway Villa five months ago, tells The OMNIway.

“Everyone was engaged.”

In keeping with OMNI Health Care’s core value of fun and laughter, most Streamway Villa staff members dressed up for Halloween, and they always encourage as many residents as possible to do the same.

Life enrichment team members decked out the home with Halloween decorations, there was musical entertainment for the day, and in the evening young trick-or-treaters came by for some candy.

Halloween is fan-favourite event of Streamway Villa residents and staff members, and Laurie says she sees the emotional benefit the annual event brings to residents.

While some residents were apprehensive at first about putting on costumes, many changed their minds as soon as they saw others wearing masks, makeup and hats, Laurie says.

“Once they got going, they were laughing for a good hour, so it definitely brings up the morale and puts everyone in a good mood,” Laurie says.
