Forest Hill’s Larry Leslie praised for his leadership on many fronts

Home’s ECM/maintenance manager presented with Inspired Leadership Award

Larry Leslie is known around Forest Hill as a team leader who doesn’t leave work until he knows the Kanata, Ont. long-term care home is safe and that residents and staff members have everything they need. He also takes on the dual role of environmental services manager (ESM) and maintenance manager at the home.

For his ability to effectively manage both roles and for his commitment to residents and staff, Larry was recently presented with Forest Hill’s 2018 Inspired Leadership Award.

“I constantly receive many words of praise from our residents, families and staff on Larry’s work ethic and kind and caring approach,” says administrator Susan Bell in nominating Larry for the award.

“Larry will do whatever it takes to ensure our residents are safe and comfortable in their environment.”

Larry excels at fostering team cohesion within the departments he manages by involving team members in the planning and implementation of changes that lead to a more organized workplace and increase the quality of services to residents, Susan says.

Larry, who has worked at Forest Hill for 17 years, works a “countless number of extra hours” to maintain the home and to make sure everything is running smoothly, Susan adds.

He’s also knowledgeable and is always learning new things if he feels this will benefit the home and cut down on the cost of bringing in expensive contractors, Susan says.

“For these reasons I recommend that Larry is very deserving of the recognition the (Inspired Leadership) award brings,” Susan says.

“Our maintenance managers are such an integral part of our operations, and we rely very heavily on our maintenance managers to ensure our residents and employees have a safe and comfortable environment. Larry is truly deserving of this recognition.”

OMNI’s Inspired Leadership Award is presented to staff members from each of the organization’s 18 long-term care homes. The accolade recognizes people who demonstrate OMNI’s mission, vision and values. Inspired Leaders also possess outstanding leadership skills and are committed to their work.
