Door-decorating contest makes the festive season more festive at Garden Terrace

Garden Terrace team members and residents got into the Christmas spirit in December while embracing their creative talents by decorating room doors at the Kanata, Ont. long-term care home.

Every holiday season Garden Terrace hosts a door-decorating contest to promote the OMNI Health Care core value of fun and laughter.

The event brings people together and everyone has a lot of fun, says life enrichment co-ordinator Sylvia Monette.

After contestants completed their designs, residents got to vote for their favourite door in various categories.

The best door design went to Christine Schyf and Sam Szola for their design that featured a train at a railway crossing.

Michelle Dawson and Jenna Lepore won the prize for the most creative design – a Christmas and winter theme across two doors.

Resident Pamela Broadhurst and her husband, Ted, designed a door full of Christmas stockings which earned the prize for the most festive design.

Sylvia says everyone involved put forth a stellar effort and helped bring the holiday season to life at Garden Terrace.

“I have to say all the doors were beautiful and helped to make our home so festive,” she says.
