Residents, guests enjoy horses, entertainment, meal
A country-and-western-themed barbecue event complete with visiting horses provided a grand old time for residents and family members at Country Terrace.
About 90 people gathered for the annual affair at the Komoka long-term care home. The rain held off and guests enjoyed the back patio and the indoors.
“It went really well,” says Candace Weber, life enrichment aide at Country Terrace. “The families really seemed to enjoy it.”
The western theme encompassed people wearing cowboy hats and sheriffs’ badges.
Jeremy Smith, an entertainer, added to the atmosphere by singing John Denver songs.
Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, corn muffins, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans and a variety of desserts were served.
The home’s barber has connections to a local cavalry and brought four or five horses to the home. That was an attraction for guests.
“A lot of people went outside to visit or were looking out the window at (the horses) and pointing them out to everyone else. It was good.”
Country Terrace started planning the event about two months ago.
