Diet and Nutrition

Menu items are available to help ensure that our residents are provided with a diet that is best suited to the individual to meet their dietary needs. Upon admission, each resident is assessed by the Registered Dietitian and the physician to ensure that they are prescribed the appropriate diet and texture.

The following diets, textures and supplements are available in our homes as extensions of the Core Menu:

Regular Diet: For residents who do not require any diet modifications.

Regular Diet: Restricted Energy: For residents who require a Reducing Diet or smaller portion sizes

Modified Diabetic Diet: Maintenance: For residents with Diabetes.

Modified Diabetic Diet: Restricted Energy; For residents with Diabetes who require less calories. than the Modified Diabetic Maintenance Diet or residents with diabetes that require smaller portions.

Modified Fat Diet: For residents who require a diet with modifications to fat in the diet

Modified Renal Diet: For residents with acute or chronic renal failure.

Modified Diabetic Renal Diet: For residents with Diabetes and acute or chronic renal failure.

The following textures are available:

Regular Texture: For residents who do not require texture modifications

Minced Texture: For residents with oral-motor impairment resulting from mild to moderate chewing disability, sore mouth, dry mouth or some types of Dysphagia.

Pureed Texture: For residents who cannot tolerate regular food due to severe chewing and swallowing problems

Thickened Fluids: For residents who cannot tolerate regular fluids due to swallowing problems.

Supplements: Where indicated by the Registered Dietitian, based upon assessment of Resident’s status
