Willows Estate hosts corn-on-the-cob boil

Residents enjoy corn, conversation

Fresh, buttery corn-on-the-cob is a sure sign it’s still summer.

Willows Estate offered residents a taste of the season recently, courtesy of what the Aurora farming community produces.

The Aurora long-term care home had a corn-on-the-cob boil as a special event Sept. 8.

Residents husked the cobs of corn in Willows Estate’s kitchen during the morning. Then during the mid-afternoon, they gathered in the dining room for a taste.

“It was fresh from the farm,” says life enrichment co-ordinator Teddy Mazzuca.

“The corn, the real butter – it’s not something (residents) normally get,” which made the event special, she says.

Another thing that made the afternoon a success was the social aspect. Residents and staff had a chance to interact more casually.

It was an impromptu event that was certainly well-received, she says.
