(VIDEO) Wildwood PSW’s individualized approach to care earns her Everyday Hero Award

Personal support worker (PSW) Michelle Bellamy describes working at Wildwood Care Centre as her “calling.” Her colleagues at the St. Marys, Ont. long-term care and retirement home call Michelle an “everyday hero” for her individualized approach to resident care.

Michelle is the 2016 recipient of Wildwood Care Centre’s Everyday Hero Award.

Scott Walsh, the home’s administrator, explains why Michelle was nominated for the accolade.

“Michelle quietly goes along her day, does the tasks that are needed here, and cares for the residents in a very kind-hearted and loving way,” he says. “She treats each individual resident as an individual and meets each of their specific needs.”

OMNI Health Care’s Inspired Leader Award is presented to staff members from each of the organization’s 18 long-term care homes. The accolade recognizes people who demonstrate OMNI’s mission, vision and values and outstanding leadership and dedication to their work.

Everyday Hero and Inspired Leader Award recipients were announced at OMNI’s managers’ forum in Kingston in May. Since then, homes have been hosting their own award ceremonies to honour award recipients.
