(VIDEO) Wildwood Care Centre’s key strength is in its family atmosphere

In today’s OMNIway video, Wildwood Care Centre administrator Scott Walsh shares the history of the St. Marys, Ont. long-term care and retirement home, which celebrated its 22nd anniversary at its present location Sept. 18-24.

Scott, the third generation of his family to operate Wildwood Care Centre, also discusses how the home’s key strength is its family atmosphere which extends to both residents and staff members.

“I think being a family business for as long as it was, we bring that aspect of family into the home,” he says. “Every one of the employees here is family, we all consider ourselves a family and the residents we take care of are family as well. … Family is the key.”

Every September Wildwood Care Centre takes a week to honour staff members with employee appreciation events, such as a bubble-gum draw where staff members guess at how many pieces of bubble gum are in a vat. Winners of the bubble-gum draw get a day off with pay. Gift cards are also handed out to employees during the week.
