VIDEO: Hero the cat comes to Springdale for pet therapy

Pet therapy is a favourite activity for many long-term-care home residents, and a new cat therapy program at Springdale Country Manor is bringing a unique feline to residents every Friday.

In today’s OMNIway video, we meet Hero the cat and his owner, Connie Coll of Therapeutic Paws Canada. Connie discusses the value of pet therapy and how Hero has become a fan favourite of residents at the Peterborough County long-term care home. (Click here to watch the video)

Hero, who was born in Russia, is a retired show cat. During his visits, Hero sits in a stroller while Connie takes him around the home to spend time with residents.

Since many of the residents are cat lovers, the home’s residents’ council recently recommended a cat therapy program. Resident Noreen Chandler spearheaded the move to bring cat therapy to the home.
