CALABOGIE, Ont. – Singer-songwriter and former Great Big Sea member Sean McCann was the keynote speaker on Day 1 at OMNI Health Care’s 2017 Quality Forum.
McCann’s presentation married musical performances with stories about his personal struggle with alcohol addiction and abuse he suffered as a teenager. But he spoke of how music has always been “therapeutic” to him and even touched on the benefits of music therapy in long-term care homes.
“I’ve talked to music therapists … and I think there is a growing focus on music as helpful – it’s therapeutic,” McCann told the audience. “(Music) can trigger positive memories.”
McCann performed several songs – including Great Big Sea numbers – which garnered a lot of audience participation from the more than 130 OMNI team members attending.
This year’s Quality Forum was held May 30 to June 1 at Calabogie Peaks Resort.
