Being near downtown Cobourg means Streamway residents get lots of high-quality outings
There is a lot going on in downtown Cobourg during summer, and Streamway Villa’s central location makes it easy to deliver fun, meaningful activities to residents, says life enrichment co-ordinator (LEC) Christina Doughty.
“We’re very lucky to have a downtown location,” Christina says, adding that because of Streamway Villa’s central location, staff and residents can walk or take wheelchairs to many events, which saves money on transportation costs.
“If it’s a nice afternoon, we can say, ‘hey, the day’s perfect, let’s take some residents down for ice cream.’ We can take a few residents out for ice cream and only spend $20, so it’s cost-efficient.”
On Aug. 5, residents and staff members attended Cobourg’s 49th annual Sidewalk Sale. The event, which is held on King St., features several blocks of extended storefronts and street vendors, along with entertainment.
This weekend, residents and staff will be heading to Victoria Park and Beach to have a look at the sandcastles and other artistic creations in the sand that were built during the Cobourg Sandcastle Festival on Aug. 5.
“There are some great sandcastles and other structures – and there is really fine detail to them,” Christina says.
This weekend will also see a group of residents and staff members attending the 11th annual Northumberland Ribfest and Music Festival, and everyone is looking forward to having some barbecued food and fun Christina says.
