OMNI HEALTH CARE NAMED TO CANADA’S TOP 100 EMPLOYERS LIST

Long-Term Care Provider Celebrates Third Year in a Row on Prestigious List

NEWS RELEASE
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – For the third consecutive year, OMNI Health Care has been named one of the best employers in the country in Mediacorp Canada’s annual competition to rate “Canada’s Top 100 Employers” for 2012.

OMNI chief executive officer Patrick McCarthy said he’s once again honoured to be named to the prestigious list, which recognizes companies and organizations that lead their sectors in areas such as working conditions, employee benefits, engagement, training and skills development and other human resource benefits.

“The OMNI culture is very strong and it’s well recognized that we have employment practices that are fair, respectful of people, and that we listen,” said McCarthy.

The long-term care provider looks to the annual competition as a way to set its sights on goals and achievements to maintain its position as a leader in the ever-evolving sector. For chief operating officer Candace Chartier, the announcement was a “validation that we’re doing things right.”

“Long-term care is continually becoming more complex and we’re going to be dealing with a different population, so we have to equip our staff with the training, the tools, the transparency and empowerment for them to be able to come forward with suggestions as to how we can be more innovative,” said Chartier.

Recruitment and retention of well-trained, enthusiastic employees is a major concern in the long-term care sector.

“The top 100 is something that people notice when they’re looking towards an employer,” said McCarthy.

“People looking for employment want to know they’re going to a fair and progressive employer,” he said.

“This announcement once again affirms that OMNI is fortunate enough to work with the best staff, and we’ve always believed that it is our employees who create the best possible environment for our residents to live.”

When employees are satisfied at work and have a powerful voice in the direction of the company they work for, that engagement spreads in terms of recruitment, Chartier said.

Chartier added that among other factors she believes a strong sense of employee health and wellness, along with access to training, education and advancement opportunities helped land OMNI on the Top 100 list this year.

Now entering its 13th year, the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project is a national competition, led by Mediacorp Canada Inc., to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees. The recruitment histories of more than 75,000 employers were examined for the competition and of these, 12,500 are invited to apply.
