Woodland joins forces with Ottawa homes to advance greater good

Raises $250 in support of Haiti relief effort

February 5, 2010

In the wake of the devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti Jan. 12, Woodland Villa administrator Mike Rasenberg was on the phone with Garden Terrace administrator Carolyn Della Foresta discussing what the homes could do to help.

The team at Woodland Villa knew that Ottawa homes Garden Terrace and Forest Hill had staff members from the Haitian community. The Woodland Villa team wanted to show support for Haitian staff members at Garden Terrace and Forest Hill. So, the three homes decided to join forces to help the relief effort to help people living in the Caribbean nation.

To date, the Woodland Villa team has raised about $250. OMNI Health Care has committed to matching funds raised at the three homes up to $2,000. On top of that, the Canadian government is matching all donations. In other words, if the homes were to raise $2,000, this would equal $4,000 being put towards the relief effort.

Woodland Villa office manager Christina Edgar says the partnership between the Cornwall-area home and the two Ottawa homes in the wake of tragedy is a reflection of strong workplace culture.

"When you're donating money and working in collaboration with someone else you're going to reap a better reward," says Edgar, who is overseeing the fundraising drive at the home.

"I think it's really rewarding to see that our (staff) is as generous as they are."
