Maplewood accepts Clinical Protocol Excellence Award

Home champions best practice protocol for diabetes

Maplewood is receiving kudos from the Ontario Long Term Care Association (OLTCA) for its diabetes protocol.

The Brighton, Ont. – based long-term care home was presented on Nov. 28 with the Clinical Protocol Excellence award.

The award is presented to either an OLTCA or AdvantAge Ontario long-term care home or representative in a member organization who has demonstrated the ability to champion the implementation of best practice clinical protocols.

Led by diabetic champion and registered nurse Karen Vaughan, Maplewood staff received education based on Canadian Diabetes Association’s Best practice guidelines.

The protocol was developed by OMNI Health Care’s corporate team and was recognized in the past with a quality innovation award.

The protocol itself aims at appropriate diabetes management and ensures that each resident living with this chronic disease is managed with an individualized, resident-centered approach, says Rachel Corkery, administrator at Maplewood.

Award recipients share the practical skills that enable transformational change, personal growth and the organizational leadership necessary to advance resident quality outcomes.

Streamway Villa in Cobourg also received an Clinical Protocol Excellence award for its implementation of OMNI’s diabetes protocol.
