Homes toast their fathers

Maplewood, Pleasant Meadow host Father’s Day socials

Spirits were both high and being served this past Father’s Day at two OMNI Health Care homes.

Maplewood in Brighton and Pleasant Meadow Manor in Norwood toasted their male residents by hosting Father’s Day social events on June 17.

Maplewood ran a Baileys Father’s Day social, inviting residents and their family members to gather for a visit over a cup of Baileys Irish Cream.

“It’s a crowd favourite,” says Rachel Corkery, administrator and life enrichment co-ordinator (LEC) at Maplewood.

Sixteen of the home’s 49 residents are male and the majority of them are fathers. The event was inclusive. “We celebrated all of our men,” she notes.

The Brighton home hosts a social event every Sunday and encourages all family members to join their loved ones for a casual visit.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Meadow Manor also honoured its men this past Father’s Day. The home hosted a Father’s Day pub, which included drinks and munchies.

“Anyone that wanted to come join their dad was able to come in,” Chris Garden, LEC, tells The OMNIway.

In the small dining room, residents and family members gathered for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer, deli meat and cheese and crackers. “It was a little bit more of a guys’ menu.”

She says the home has about 25 male residents.

Each year Pleasant Meadow Manor hosts a Father’s Day Pub and a Mother’s Day tea in recognition of their residents.
