Judy Keenan brings outstanding teamwork and dedication to quality each day, says manager

If there’s one key strength Frost Manor cook and dietary aide Judy Keenan brings to her colleagues each day, it’s teamwork, says her supervisor, nutritional care manager Neil MacDonald.

Judy’s strong commitment to her co-workers and the residents at the Lindsay long-term care home earned her a nomination from Neil for Frost Manor’s 2017 Everyday Hero Award, which she received at a recent ceremony.

“Judy demonstrates a team mentality when arriving to work each day, (as well as) our OMNI values within the duties of each day for both residents and her colleagues at Frost Manor, and the dedication to achieving excellent quality of care for our residents through her commitment of 19 years with the Frost Manor family,” Neil says.

While on duty, Judy always provides a “high standard” of service to residents, Neil says. He adds that Judy looks at every shift as a “new challenge” and works her best when under pressure.

If other staff members need assistance, Judy always steps in to help and shows leadership in the kitchen, he notes.

“Judy has established herself as the rock of the kitchen who displays a contagious positive work environment,” Neil says.

Judy is also always searching for ways to enhance quality food service for residents, Neil says. She enjoys trying new recipes and cooking methods to enhance results, and she is always willing to take special requests from residents.

“Judy has a great understanding that the meal service we provide to those we care for can truly have a great impact on their day, whether that’s through a great cooked dinner or a home-baked cookie,” Neil says.

The Everyday Hero Award is given out annually by each of OMNI Health Care’s 18 long-term care homes to recognize staff members who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to residents and co-workers.

OMNI announced this year’s recipients of the Everyday Hero, Inspired Leadership and Elisabeth Hinton Memorial awards at the Quality Forum in Calabogie, Ont. in May. Managers from OMNI’s long-term care homes were presented with the names of the award winners. Homes are presenting the awards during their own ceremonies.

Personal support worker Sue Cardona received Frost Manor’s Inspired Leadership Award this year. The OMNIway will be featuring a story about Sue in the coming days.
