Susan Cardona praised for her many attributes that help make Frost Manor a home and employer of choice
Frost Manor personal support worker (PSW) Susan Cardona is being hailed by her peers for her ability to know the needs, preferences and routines of the Lindsay long-term care home’s residents as well as her leadership on the floor.
For these attributes, Susan received Frost Manor’s 2017 Inspired Leadership Award.
Sarah Yakich, Frost Manor’s RAI co-ordinator, says Susan not only has the talent to discover residents’ needs and preferences, she also shares this information with other team members.
“Susan is a team player and understands that teamwork will enhance quality of care to the residents at Frost Manor,” Sarah says.
By ensuring everyone around her is working together, Susan is also helping to minimize stress for team members working on all shifts, Sarah adds.
Additionally, Susan is well-versed in making good judgement calls and finding solutions to challenges. Susan is always leading by example and empowers others, Sarah says.
“Susan praises her co-workers and will thank her co-workers when she notices a job well done,” Sarah says.
“Susan always treats others with respect, (and she) is always heard laughing and seen smiling while she is working and interacting with residents, their families and her co-workers.”
Frost Manor life enrichment co-ordinator Vi O’Leary echoes Sarah’s feelings about the value Susan brings to residents, their families and staff members. She also praises Susan’s focus on being a “team player.”
“Susan believes and practices OMNI’s mission, vision and values,” Vi says. “She loves fun and laughter and has a good knowledge of her job and shows kindness and direction to new staff and residents.”
OMNI Health Care’s Inspired Leadership Award is presented to staff members from each of the organization’s 18 long-term care homes. The accolade recognizes people who demonstrate OMNI’s mission, vision and values. Inspired Leaders also possess outstanding leadership skills and are committed to their work.
OMNI announced this year’s recipients of the Everyday Hero, Inspired Leadership and Elisabeth Hinton Memorial awards at the Quality Forum in Calabogie, Ont., in May.
Managers from OMNI’s long-term care homes were presented with the names of the award winners. Homes are presenting the awards during their own ceremonies.
