Door decorating contest takes Garden Terrace Christmastime festivities taken up a notch

The Garden Terrace team hosted a door-decorating challenge to add to the festivities at the Kanata, Ont., long-term care home this year as well as to spruce up rooms with creative yuletide decorations.

Staff members and managers decorated 19 doors in the home with creative designs in the days leading up to the annual resident and family Christmas party.

The doors were completed by Dec. 3, in time for the event. When the doors were completed, 10 residents voted for their favourite design.

Staff members Melanie Llagas and Ania Skirlo won the contest for their designs. Melanie created a Santa Claus on her door, while Ania’s design was a gingerbread house.

Life enrichment co-ordinator Sylvia Monette says the contest was also enjoyable for residents and embraced OMNI Health Care’s core value of fun and laughter.

“Not only was there fun and laughter creating the doors, but residents, family and staff had so much fun walking around the home to see the decorated doors,” Sylvia tells The OMNIway.
