Country Terrace hosts ‘fun in the sun’ themed town-hall meeting

Celebratory event is another chapter in the home’s culture-change journey

Team members at Country Terrace are on a culture-change journey to enhance quality all around at the Komoka, Ont., long-term care home, and they recently hosted a town-hall meeting with a “fun in the sun day” theme to celebrate and thank staff.

During the meeting, virgin piña coladas, fruit punch and doughnuts were served, while team members were encouraged to wear colourful, tropical-themed clothing, such as sun hats, leis and sunglasses.

“We saw great participation,” administrator Karen Dann tells The OMNIway.

Karen handed out service pins to longtime team members, and there was discussion about revamping the social committee with monthly luncheon events with all the proceeds going back to staff members.

The physiotherapy and maintenance teams also received special accolades, and director of care Lynda DeBuck read out compliments received from residents and families.

Then the floor was open to staff members for positive feedback.

“Some staff stated how much they enjoyed working with their co-workers, (and) Jane Humphrey, the Unifor union chair, thanked the staff for working overtime and working hard when we seem to be frequently short-staffed,” Karen says.

“It was a great meeting.”
