Staff members from all departments worked together to make event successful
Willows Estate’s Dec. 5 resident and family Christmas dinner provided an evening of great food and great fun while raising money for the Aurora long-term care home’s residents’ council.
This is the second straight year the Willows has hosted the event, which included a turkey dinner with all the trimmings (including apple crumble and mincemeat pie for dessert) prepared by nutritional care manager Gary Rose and his team, as well as entertainment.
Each of the 55 tickets, which family members bought for $10 per person, sold out, says Teddy Mazzuca, Willows Estate’s life enrichment co-ordinator.
Eileen Hennessey, a singer and guitarist who is a fan-favourite with the Willows’ residents, provided entertainment after dinner. “The residents just love her,” Teddy says.
Staff members from all departments worked hard to organize the event, which made it a success, she adds.
“All the staff were wonderful; the evening staff made sure the residents were all dressed up, (and) the kitchen staff were fabulous, too,” Teddy says. “Everyone pitched in, and it was a really great evening.”
The $550 raised from the event will be donated to the residents’ council to support in-house entertainment and outings.
As a follow-up to the resident and family Christmas dinner, the Willows hosted a staff party Wednesday (Dec. 7). In keeping with OMNI Health Care’s core value of fun and laughter, team members got to wear their pyjamas to work.
