OMNI’s operations manager of nutrition and food service says he will focus his presidency on increasing membership, enhancing social media presence and attracting more students to association
OMNI Health Care’s Chris Weber was sworn in as president of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) during the organization’s 2018 conference and annual general meeting on June 14 in Moncton, N.B.
Weber, OMNI’s operations manager of nutrition and food service, says he will focus his presidency on growing the association’s national strength, particularly in regions with lower membership, to give the CSNM full representation across the country.
“We are looking to provide supports to provinces where we don’t have high membership, so marketing will be a big piece,” Weber tells The OMNIway.
“Also, I have made our social media presence a priority, and I have had tremendous help with a social media team we have started. Our Instagram and Facebook communities have already been growing.”
Weber says he and the CSNM board are also trying to get younger people involved with the association, particularly students. The CSNM provides support and networking opportunities in the nutritional management field, which can be valuable to culinary students, Weber says, adding his own involvement with the CSNM early in his career proved beneficial.
Weber was voted in as CSNM president-elect during the 2017 conference. The CSNM board always has three presidential roles: president-elect, president and past-president. This is to help people in leadership positions guide each other. In June 2019, Weber will become CSNM past-president when the current president-elect, Dave Lebert, is sworn in as president.
Weber says during his year as CSNM president-elect he received strong support from the CSNM board to prepare him for his role as president. This support, he says, has primed him for his role as president.
“We have got tremendous momentum going from our previous year, so I really want to capitalize on that momentum that was established by the past-president, Eric Evers,” he says. “It’s an honour and a privilege to be in the position I am in; I feel very fortunate about that.”
The CSNM is a national organization aimed at moving nutritional-care management forward. Members are provided with educational and networking opportunities to advance their professional development and the organizations they represent.
