Burnbrae’s Everyday Hero demonstrates strong commitment to work, always helping others

CAMPBELLFORD, Ont. – Working as both a part-time physiotherapy assistant and part-time environmental services staff member, Debbie Fuller wears covers a lot of ground at Burnbrae Gardens.

But no matter what role she is in, Debbie is always leading by example, say her colleagues at the Campbellford long-term care home.

Debbie, her co-workers say, is always lending a helping hand. Even when she is in her role as an Achieva Health physiotherapy assistant, she can be found walking residents to the dining room or fixing them a cup of coffee, staff members note in their nomination.

April Faux, Burnbrae Gardens’ administrator, says Debbie “shined from Day 1.”

And it’s for Debbie’s commitment to residents that she received Burnbrae Gardens’ 2017 Everyday Hero Award.

“Debbie never hesitates to jump in when required, regardless of her duties that day. Debbie picks up extra shifts, extended shifts, and moves her day around to accommodate us on a daily basis,” April says.

“Debbie has such a kind heart and is very compassionate to our residents and fellow co-workers. The residents just love what she brings to our physio program, and we could not be happier that she is one of our employees.”

Debbie was on-hand to accept her award during a presentation at Burnbrae Gardens on Aug. 29. After receiving her Everyday Hero Award, she thanked her colleagues for nominating her for the award and praised the atmosphere of teamwork at Burnbrae Gardens.

“I find it really easy to be here and easy to be a part of this team, and that’s what Burnbrae Gardens is – everyone is a team member, everyone does their part and more every day,” she says.

“I am very privileged and honoured to be a part of this home and a part of OMNI.”

The Everyday Hero Award is given out annually by each of OMNI Health Care’s 18 long-term care homes to recognize staff members who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to residents and co-workers.

OMNI announced this year’s recipients of the Everyday Hero, Inspired Leader and Elisabeth Hinton Memorial awards at the Quality Forum in Calabogie, Ont. in May. Managers from OMNI’s long-term care homes were presented with the names of the award winners. Homes are presenting the awards during their own ceremonies.
